Construction and composition
Single-knit and double-knit describe the needle-bed construction, not the fibre. Always compare construction with composition, weight and finishing.
Use single jersey as a reference
Single jersey is a common single-knit fabric. Inspect both sides and edge curling when comparing it with another construction; equal weight does not imply identical drape.
Test the required properties
Define opacity, stability, stretch and handle. Test lengthwise and crosswise stretch, seam behaviour and the trial garment after care instead of assuming one construction is universally better.
Speak to the manufacturer
Name the construction if known and provide a reference sample. Otherwise describe the garment; the manufacturer can suggest an available quality and parameters for approval.
